Attappady Co-Operative society was established in 1975 under Western Ghat Dev. Programme with the aim of improving the life of 420 landless Tribal families of Attappady. The government assigned 1092.79 Hectares of vested forest land in Attappady by G.O (Rt.) 3343/75/A. dtd. 3.12.1975, to promote this laudable project.
The society has set up 4 farms including 420 families with the key objective of cultivating the organic products of spices for the welfare of the society as well as the society members of the Co-Operative Farming Society.
Coffee, Pepper, Cardamom, Clove, Nutmeg, Areca nut, Coconut, Ginger, Turmeric are some of the important crops cultivated in our farms. INDOCERT certified organic cultivation is adopted by our society which ensures that we never use any chemical fertilizer and pesticides to ensure nature conservation of Attappady hills.
In addition to the farm products, Honey, Kunkiliyam etc., collected from the forest by the tribes are sold in the Society’s sales outlets and in India International Trade fare and other Trade fares conducted by various departments. Auction procedure is followed to sell the products in large quantity& retails marketing Agri. processing also be done by society.
